SCL 3 : OPERATING SYSTEM AND FILE MANAGEMENT
Question 1:
List all the operating system used in a desktop/laptop today and find good descriptions on how operating systems work? Hence state their advantages and disadvantages.

Types of operating systems used in laptop and desktop nowadays,

  • Microsoft Windows 
  • Mac OS
  • UNIX and Linux
  • DOS (Disk Operating System 
      An Operating System (OS) is a  type of system software that controls the overall operation of a computer. The purpose of an operating system is to organize and control hardware and software so the device lives in behaves in a flexible but predictable way.

Not a multi thread operating systems
More expensive than the other operating system
Open to virus attacks

The price cost more than other OS
Fewer computer programs and games are available
UNIX and Linux
Open sources which is usually free
Reliable and rarely freeze
Easy to update and install
Some manufacturers do not offer hardware support 
Limited application programs
Limited impact to date

Easy to use
Most popular microcomputer OS for IBM computer and compatible ever sold worldwide
Does not require expensive computer system
An old OS
Restriction is an inherent limitation
Character-based interface
